Fall 2013 Backer Progress Report

Oct. 03, 2013

Humble Greetings From Warbird Games!
Development is really heating up, guys! This time I have some huge announcements, starting with a new distribution partner ready to deliver digital content to every backer! We also have a new development parter and a major switch to an entirely new engine! This comes with much more broad compatibility, higher resolutions, and lots of other great advantages. I’ll also show you guys some new cutscene visual effects in the works and a few more peeks into the production while we’re at it!

Fantasy Workshop #1: Jack’s Rocketship Inside & Out

Sep. 24, 2013

Adventure games are as much fun to create as they are to play!

Welcome to a whole new series where I take you with me into the Warbird Games Fantasy Workshop to follow along in the creation of Jack Houston and the Necronauts! Watch as I build and customize sci-fi models, create miniature terrain, carve foam scenery using saws and hotwire foam cutters, paint and airbrush miniatures, sculpt creatures, build stop motion armatures, and put it all together in Photoshop and After Effects, then script the game logic in the computer and make it come alive!

In this episode, I’ll create the rocketship interior from scratch using foam and plastic, paint it, and photograph it for use in the game as background plates. Then I’ll move on to the exterior, as i add extended wings to a large V2 rocket kit.

Changes Coming To Pre-Order Pricing

Jul. 13, 2013

Just wanted to let everyone know that change is imminent for Jack Houston! I am currently in talks with a distribution platform, and very soon the current Paypal backing options will change! Mainly, the lower tiers will go away and new pre-order options will take their place. I can’t go into too many details yet, but I can tell you this is your last chance to get the ENTIRE game for $15, or the ENTIRE game + soundtrack for $30 via Paypal:

Thanks, and I will be back soon with some very cool news…

Jun. 26, 2013

Hope everyone is having an awesome summer so far! This update gets into some of the nitty gritty meat and potatoes (yikes, that doesn’t sound very appetizing), so I’ll just jump right into it. First off… (click here to read entire update on the forums)

Jack Houston BTS: Rocket Interior Prototyping

Jun. 25, 2013

Today I’m taking you guys from prototype #1 of the rocket interior to prototype #2 and talking a bit about how prototyping helps to refine the design and occasionally take things in whole new directions. A little bit of After Effects animation, a little bit of photoshop prototyping, a bit of coding and room building in-engine. Please comment, like, tweet, facebook, subscribe, all that good stuff!

Jack Houston BTS: Parallax coding #2

Jun. 08, 2013

Here’s the final parallax effect with three layers: foreground, midground & background. Please note the effect is considerably more dramatic in the game. It’s still quite visible, but the YouTube encoding process tends to soften the effect considerably.
